Who is a leader for unity?
(An united Malaysia is an ideal Malaysia)
As expected, Merdeka came and went without much fuss…
In fact, having nothing much to do at home, I went to back to work on 1st September – I had some project work to be completed and hey, going to work on a holiday was fabulous (and traffic jam free too).
I did not catch the PM’s Merdeka speech (I know it will a combination of unity, open mind, transparency, other ideals words, much alien to politicians but the “usual” stuff during Merdeka celebrations, year in year out) and I was not far from being right. I managed to glanced through the PM’s speech this year and yes, nothing unusual about it – pretty much the same thing that we often hear.
One that stood out was this statement:-
It is my hope that every Malaysian will be able to appreciate and realise the importance of solidarity amongst us. A united people is a strong national bulwark against any threat, whether from within or outside the country.
Solidarity is the cornerstone of the nation’s political stability, social harmony and economic competitiveness. In fact, the world has great respect for and is impressed with Malaysia because not many countries with a multiracial population exist with tolerance, peace and harmony.
If the PM had intended for a joke with the above statement, we can assure him that we did not missed it.
The thing is about politicians is that we should never trust their words. It is said that politicians (both BN & PR alike) are like chameleons – changing colour to suit the needs and it is the same with our dear old PM. He said Malaysia belongs to all of us, that united people is something that he aspire for, how Malaysia is unique with it’s diversified culture & religion but then again just how many people from his own party, under his leadership have called the Non-Malays to pack their things and leave the country?
Pak Lah may not have said those racists’ words but failure to address them and punish those who uttered them makes it the same.
Remember when Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam called on the Government to revoke the citizenship of Hindraf members, Pak Lah just stood by and did nothing (perhaps back then Hindraf was deemed as “terrorist” group and was bad news for MIC). Even BN component parties did nothing and kept their silence.
But now, when the Ahmad Ismail called the Chinese Malaysians as immigrants, the same BN component parties are taking the task up to the PM to act.
Don’t let him off the hook lightly. This was the call by Gerakan vice-president Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in urging action against Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail.
And one from MCA:-
MCA vice-president Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn has joined the chorus condemning Datuk Ahmad Ismail for his racist remarks, saying that the Barisan Nasional government should consider the possibility of charging the Bukit Bendera Umno division chief with sedition.
But what does the great Leader of “all” Malaysians do? He just says:-
He will personally see to it that Bukit Bendera Umno chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail does not repeat his remarks about the Chinese community.
What else the PM needs before he can act against those who muddle the unity and relationships between all Malaysians? A Chinese “version” of Hindraf? Pak Lah, your move.
