One Step Forward

Despite taking a damaging step backwards with the reversal of decision to teach Science and Mathematics in English and the submarine project was heavily tainted with the murder of the Altantuya Shaariibuu, Malaysians can be somewhat proud with their first operational Scorpene submarine.

KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, named after the country’s first prime minister, was unveiled in a historic ceremony at the DCNS dockyard here, about 400km from Paris.

With a crew of 32, a maximum operating depth of 350m, submerged speed of over 20 knots, endurance of 50 days and 6 torpedo tubes for 18 torpedoes / missiles, the latest addition to the Royal Malaysian Navy is a big welcome.
